As of this writing, Axiotron's unfortunate financial situation make it seem unlikely that we shall see an updated Modbook or a Modbook Pro (for those few who could afford one). I thought I'd focus my Modbookish related efforts towards making the unique gadget we have, a bit better.

My thought is to take the Modbook as it is, right now, as the best of its type, and augment and extend OSX to make it more Modbook friendly. My recent discovery, Snow Leopard's AppleScriptObjC, makes it quite plausible to make significant and useful changes in OSX's user interface. So given the Modbook, a stylus and perhaps an Apple Remote, but no keyboard, and no new touch interface, how would you want the operating system to work? I encourage everyone to pitch in with suggestions. What are your pet peeves?

Alternatively, those who are more hardware oriented may want to propose hardware mods (as Ed has). Nonetheless, the point is to brainstorm a better Modbook, and maybe the community can make it happen.

I don't know if it's just me, but my ModBook seems kind of heavy.  I guess I'm comparing it to an iPad.

I would also like the mic moved away from the fan.  I can' use Skype/iChat reliably.

I'm an over-educated, over-medicated, under-paid, under-motivated, under-stimulated Beta-male.

I doubt we can do much to make the Modbook lighter (except perhaps remove the largely useless GPS module), but it seems reasonable that the microphone could be put somewhere else. Has anyone who has opened a Modbook taken note of the microphone's position and wiring? Does it appear that it could be easily moved?

Here's someone who built his own a few years ago. It looks pretty heavy but possible.
For some reason it's been on my mind to build my own over the last few months. The idea keeps popping into my head. I know absolutely nothing about computers, code or programming, let alone construction.
